Ford fuel injector and ignition coil connectors are mounted in the engine valley, exposed to heat, oil vapour, and vibration. The 2-pin connector’s locking tab fractures from repeated thermal cycling and vibration, allowing the connector to partially disengage. A partially disconnected injector connector causes the ECU to log a cylinder-specific injector circuit fault (P0201–P0208) and run the affected cylinder lean, producing a misfire. On Ford EcoBoost engines, the injector connector is additionally exposed to direct injection fuel pressure vibration, accelerating locking tab fatigue.

A: P0201–P0208 are circuit fault codes — they indicate the ECU cannot control the injector, which can be caused by a corroded or loose connector rather than a failed injector. Inspect the 2-pin connector at the affected cylinder’s injector before replacing the injector.
