License plate light connectors are mounted at the rear of the vehicle, directly exposed to road spray, car wash water, and salt. The connector is typically located in a recessed area of the boot lid or rear bumper where water pools. Moisture ingress causes corrosion on the ground pin first, causing the license plate light to flicker or go out. On vehicles with integrated rear cameras, a corroded 6-pin connector simultaneously causes the license plate light failure and the camera black screen — both faults from a single corroded connector.
