The crankshaft position sensor is mounted on the engine block near the crankshaft reluctor wheel, in one of the harshest environments in the engine bay — exposed to engine oil, coolant spray, and extreme heat cycling. The 3-pin connector is particularly vulnerable to oil contamination, which degrades the terminal plating and increases contact resistance. A corroded CKP connector causes the ECU to lose the engine position signal, preventing fuel injection and ignition. The result is a no-start condition that is frequently misdiagnosed as a failed CKP sensor before the connector is inspected.
