Performance engines run at higher temperatures and with more aggressive fuelling than standard road cars. The fuel injector connector is exposed to fuel vapour, heat cycling between cold starts and operating temperature, and vibration from high-revving engines. On the 4AGE and 3SGE, the injector connectors are located in the intake manifold area where heat soak is significant. On the RB26DETT, the six injector connectors are exposed to the heat of the twin-turbo system. Corroded injector connectors cause individual cylinder misfires that are difficult to diagnose because the injector itself tests correctly when removed from the engine.
