Why Toyota CMP Sensor Connectors Fail
The camshaft position sensor is mounted on the cylinder head, in direct contact with engine heat and oil vapour. On Toyota 1ZZ, 2AZ, 2GR, and 1GR engines, the CMP sensor connector is exposed to oil mist from the valve cover area. Oil contamination degrades the connector housing seal and accelerates terminal oxidation on the 5V reference and signal pins. A corroded Pin 1 (5V reference) causes the ECU to log P0340/P0345 immediately — the ECU cannot distinguish between a failed sensor and a failed connector without physical inspection. Always inspect and replace the connector before condemning the CMP sensor itself.
