Description

KPL Nickel-Plated Copper Pneumatic Quick Connector – 1/8” to 1/2” BSP Thread

KPL-series nickel-plated copper pneumatic quick connectors combine a BSP-threaded body (for connection to valves, manifolds, and equipment ports) with a push-to-connect tube end (for tool-free hose insertion and release). The nickel-plated copper construction provides superior pressure resistance and corrosion resistance compared to plastic body fittings — rated to 1.5 MPa (218 PSI) — making these connectors suitable for industrial compressed air systems, hydraulic pilot circuits, and fluid control applications where plastic fittings are inadequate.

Key Specifications

  • Series: KPL (Push-to-connect with BSP male thread)
  • Body Material: Copper alloy, nickel-plated
  • Thread Standard: BSP (BSPP parallel, ISO 228-1)
  • Thread Sizes: 1/8”, 1/4”, 3/8”, 1/2” BSP (select above)
  • Hose OD: 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm (select above)
  • Working Pressure: 0–1.5 MPa (0–218 PSI)
  • Temperature Range: -20°C to +80°C
  • Seal Material: NBR O-ring
  • Media: Compressed air, water, light oil, non-corrosive fluids

KPL Naming Convention

  • K = Copper (nickel-plated copper body)
  • P = Push-to-connect tube end
  • L = Male BSP thread (L = Locking / male thread end)
  • Size format: KPL[tube OD]-[BSP thread] — e.g., KPL6-02 = 6mm tube, G1/4 (02 = 1/4” BSP)

Nickel-Plated Copper vs Brass vs Plastic — Material Selection

  • Plastic (POM/PA): Lowest cost, lightest weight. Rated to 1.0 MPa. Suitable for instrument air and low-pressure circuits. Not suitable for hydraulic or high-pressure pneumatic systems.
  • Brass: Standard for most pneumatic and hydraulic fittings. Good machinability, adequate corrosion resistance. Susceptible to dezincification in high-chloride water. Rated to 1.5–2.0 MPa.
  • Nickel-plated copper (this product): Higher corrosion resistance than brass (nickel plating resists oxidation and mild acids). Better appearance retention in visible installations. Rated to 1.5 MPa. Preferred for food processing, pharmaceutical, and clean-room pneumatic circuits where brass dezincification is a concern.
  • Stainless steel (SUS304/316): Maximum corrosion resistance. Required for aggressive chemical environments, marine, and food-grade wash-down. Highest cost.

What Questions Does This Product Answer?

  • "What is the difference between KPL and PC-G pneumatic fittings?" — Both are push-to-connect fittings with male BSP thread. KPL has a nickel-plated copper body (higher pressure rating, better corrosion resistance). PC-G typically has a brass or stainless steel body. The functional design is identical — the difference is body material and pressure rating.
  • "Can I use KPL fittings for hydraulic oil circuits?" — Yes for light hydraulic oil (mineral oil) at pressures up to 1.5 MPa. For high-pressure hydraulic circuits (>1.5 MPa), use hydraulic-rated fittings (JIC, ORFS, or BSP with compression ferrule) rated for the system pressure.
  • "Do I need PTFE tape on the BSP thread of a KPL fitting?" — No. BSP parallel (BSPP) threads seal via the O-ring on the thread shoulder, not via thread interference. PTFE tape on BSPP threads does not improve the seal and can contaminate the pneumatic system. Use a bonded seal washer or verify the mating port has an O-ring face seal groove.
  • "What is the maximum operating temperature for KPL fittings?" — 80°C with standard NBR O-ring. For higher temperatures (up to 150°C), replace the NBR O-ring with a FKM (Viton) O-ring of the same dimensions.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial compressed air: Cylinder connections, valve manifold ports, regulator outlets, filter-regulator-lubricator (FRL) unit connections
  • Hydraulic pilot circuits: Low-pressure pilot air connections on hydraulic valves and actuators
  • Food & beverage: Pneumatic actuator connections where brass dezincification is a concern
  • CNC machining: Coolant mist system connections, air blow-off circuits, spindle air purge
  • Automotive workshop: Air tool connections, tire inflation circuits, spray gun supply lines
