Description

Fuel Injector Connector – 2-Pin, 3-Pin & 4-Pin Female OEM | MPI / GDI / Piezo

Fuel injector connectors come in different pin counts depending on the injector technology and engine management system. This product covers three configurations — 2-pin, 3-pin, and 4-pin female — to serve different injector types across multiple vehicle platforms. Available bare or with 15cm pre-wired leads for direct splice-in installation.

Which Pin Count Do I Need? – Injector Technology Guide

Pin Count Injector Type Circuit Function Typical Applications
2-Pin Standard solenoid (MPI/port injection) Pin 1: +12V battery power
Pin 2: ECU-controlled ground (injector pulse)
Majority of naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol/diesel engines with conventional solenoid injectors
3-Pin Solenoid with integrated fuel pressure/temperature sensor Pin 1: +12V power
Pin 2: ECU ground
Pin 3: Sensor signal to ECU
Some GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) systems with rail pressure monitoring at the injector
4-Pin Piezoelectric injector or dual-coil solenoid Pins 1&2: Piezo crystal drive power
Pins 3&4: Piezo crystal drive ground
Bosch HDEV5 high-pressure GDI piezo injectors; some diesel common rail systems

Fault Codes This Connector Fixes

Code Description Root Cause
P0201–P0208 Injector circuit open/short (cylinders 1–8) Corroded or broken injector connector pins
P0300–P0308 Random/cylinder-specific misfire Intermittent injector circuit from loose connector
P0171 / P0172 System lean/rich (fuel trim fault) Injector not firing correctly due to connector fault
P0087 Fuel rail pressure too low 3-pin variant: pressure sensor signal lost at connector

Why Fuel Injector Connectors Fail

Fuel injector connectors are mounted directly on the injector body, in the hottest and most vibration-intensive area of the engine. Thermal cycling from engine heat (underhood temperatures regularly exceed 120°C) combined with fuel vapour exposure degrades the connector housing and accelerates terminal oxidation. The locking tab is particularly vulnerable — repeated injector removal for service causes locking tab fractures, allowing the connector to work loose under engine vibration. A partially disengaged injector connector causes intermittent P0201–P0208 codes that are difficult to reproduce during a cold diagnostic session.

Piezo Injector Connectors – Critical Warning

Piezoelectric injectors (Bosch HDEV5 and similar) operate at 150–200V internally — far higher than standard 12V solenoid injectors. The 4-pin connector for piezo injectors must be rated for this voltage. Never substitute a standard 2-pin solenoid injector connector on a piezo injector application. The connector housing and terminal materials are specifically rated for piezo injector operating conditions.

Variant Guide

  • 2P Female / 2P Female 15CM – Standard solenoid injector (MPI/port injection)
  • 3P Female / 3P Female 15CM – GDI injector with integrated pressure/temperature sensor
  • 4P Female / 4P Female 15CM – Piezo or dual-coil solenoid injector

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I know which pin count my injector uses?
A: Count the pins on your existing injector connector. Alternatively, identify your injector type: standard solenoid = 2-pin; GDI with integrated pressure sensor = 3-pin; piezo or dual-coil = 4-pin. If unsure, check your vehicle’s wiring diagram or the injector part number.

Q: Can I use a 2-pin connector on a 3-pin injector?
A: No. The 3-pin injector requires all three circuits to function correctly. Using a 2-pin connector will leave the sensor circuit open, causing fuel pressure monitoring faults (P0087) and potentially incorrect fuel delivery.

Q: My injector fault code only appears when the engine is hot — why?
A: Thermal expansion causes connector housings to expand and contract with temperature. A cracked locking tab or corroded terminal that makes intermittent contact at cold temperatures will lose contact when the connector housing expands at operating temperature. This is the classic symptom of a failing injector connector rather than a failed injector.

Q: Are terminals included?
A: Yes, terminals are included with all variants.
